These are photographs taken between January 8th and February 4th 2005
when I was back in Kosgoda, Sri Lanka to repair and rebuild after the
tsunami. Click on the small images to see a higher resolution version

This gentleman's name is Richmond. He works at the Kosgoda Beach Resort
and has known are family since my wife was at school in the village.
This is his house, damaged by the tsunami but fortunately with no losses
to his family.

 |
After visiting the hotel, I followed the road back past Richmond's house
(above) towards the main Galle Road. This is a picture taken on that
path back to Galle Road.

Kosgoda police station. The exposed foundations on the right are the
remains of the quarters.
|
 |
This is a view of the staff quarters at our factory, taken from outside
by the main road. In the foreground to the right is a Bo tree and a small
Buddha shrine, which was remarkably undamaged.

 |
A lot of rubble had to be cleared from behind the staff toilet block.
We also had to swiftly repair the main sewer pipe. You can see our
impromptu lash-up in this image.
|
 |
The sewer line all the way to the sceptic tank was broken, so we had
to lay a new one of those too. Lovely job!

 |
Assorted layabouts. From left to right are Sanjeeva (driver), Giles
Frazer (Irish fishing skipper with whom I worked on most of the repairs)
and Nuwan, tour guide and ladies' man! :)

Sunset in Bentota. There used to be a new house on the left of the opening
to the sea, plus a roadway across to the right-hand bank. Not any more.
Now the waves of the sea flow into the lagoon.
